  1. Mira was breathtaking in Errante tonight. The Steadfast Tin Soldier is a bit too cutesy for my taste and doesn’t have much substance. Still deciding how I feel about  Bourree and would like to see it again.

Symphony in C is always a crowd pleaser. All four movement principals seemed on tonight. Emma and Alston both looked especially good - such energy and joy. I think Alston will settle in some as she dances more principal roles (keep them coming!). I find her so fresh and love the quality of her movement.

If I had to guess I'd say Macgill was a strong candidate for promotion to soloist and Emma VE for principal

I agree with Vipa above. Think Alston and Emma are on track for promotions.

  2. Last night was my third time seeing this program. Agree with the above assessment of the dancers. I think Emma should be promoted to principal. I do like Hallelujah Junction despite it being a bit frenetic. Alston Macgill continues to be my favorite and I think she should be promoted to soloist. She shows her stuff in all the good ways in Martins’ choreography. The Concert can lose some of its allure/humor on multiple viewings. So, it’s nice to have different dancers in the lead to keep it interesting. Agree with the above that Alexa proved herself with both her dancing and acting skills. I am enjoying the company so much right now. There seems to be a new buzzing energy in the performances that makes me want to see as many performances as possible.

  3. I have always been an admirer of Alston MacGill, but she reached a new level in Ballo and Hallelujah Junction. Her technique is always strong, but she genuinely seemed to be having the time of her life. I could not keep my eyes off her. I would make a special trip to see her dance a featured part & would love to see her promoted. Also, I really enjoyed Ava Sautter  & Gilbert Bolden in Albert’s piece. Mira Nadon is someone I check for in casting when buying tickets. Her expansiveness is alluring. NYCB is looking so good with the fresh talent.

I think Woodward and Phelan will be promoted along with Harrison Ball. And Roman Mejia to soloist.

Woodward is ready to be a principal dancer. I would like to see Roman Mejia, Emily Kikta, and Alston Macgill get soloist promotions.

This is so horrifying that I would think you were making it up, if a friend hadn’t told me the same thing during intermission last night. OMG I just can’t even! In addition to the flaws you mention, I’d add they each, in their separate ways, have a fundamentally wrong temperament for Valse Fantaisie.
Ulbricht and Pereira certainly embody more of the spirit of the piece, but I find Pereira lacking in impact. My eyes kept going to the ladies behind her, especially Kristen Segin and Emma Von Enck, who have more substantive presence. New casting idea for this piece: Emma Von Enck and Roman Mejia. I bet these two would look great together.
I was thrilled to see Union Jack again. Mr Cobweb, who had never seen it before, was fascinated. I am on the subway and about to lose my connection. Will report more later.

I like Emma Von Enck, but I have thought that Alston Macgill and Roman would make a fabulous pair. Alston and Roman share such a natural and dynamic energy.

Raymonda was fantastic, and Gordon and Bouder (still a bit squeaky, alas) were amazing together. Of the variations I thought Macgill and Emma von Enck were the best.

The ushers nearly ruined the whole thing though; they chatted and kept their walkie talkies on for the entire ballet. Where on earth does the Koch get these people?

I agree! I liked Macgill and VonEnck the best of the variations. Alston Macgill is one of my favorites to watch right now!

  7. I am looking forward to seeing Alston Macgill dance one of the Raymonda variations. I saw her as Scotch Girl in the Spring Season and found her to be absolutely charming with impeccable technique. I hope she continues to get featured roles.
