COLORADO BALLET NAMES  ADAM FLATT  AS ITS MUSIC DIRECTOR/PRINCIPAL  CONDUCTOR

DENVER-  Colorado Ballet is very pleased and excited to announce Adam Flatt as its  new Music Director and Principal Conductor, beginning with the October 5, 2007 opening of  its 47th season with Le  Corsaire.

Flatt made his debut with the company during the 2006 production of The Nutcracker as guest conductor and  selected as a top candidate as a result of that performance.

"I was very excited by what Adam produced with the orchestra during his  guest appearance last year," said Colorado Ballet Artistic Director Gil Boggs,  "He certainly brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this position and I  feel our audiences will experience a freshness in our orchestra under his  leadership."

Flatt says that he was similarly inspired by the experience.

"I have long admired Colorado Ballet as a fan," said Flatt, "When I  conducted the company in performances last December, I was delighted and  impressed by the wonderful, committed playing from the remarkable musicians of  the orchestra and the amazing dancing of this company. I am happy to be joining  Gil Boggs and Colorado Ballet."

Having grown up in Sacramento,  California, Flatt began his music studies  with childhood violin lessons. He holds a bachelor's degree in music with honors  from the University of  California at  Berkeley and a master's degree in  conducting from the Indiana University School of Music.

Although his conducting experience encompasses a wide range of musical  styles, his first exposure to live orchestra came early, when at the age of 3,  he attended a performance of The  Nutcracker.

I can still remember the emotional excitement of that experience," Flatt  said.

Flatt has conducted ballet performances with companies in  Oregon and  Texas, as well as performances  with orchestras and opera companies across the country and abroad, has been a  prominent member of Denver's musical  community since 2001, when he joined the Colorado Symphony as Associate  Conductor, a position he held until 2006. During that time, he led over 250  concerts with the CSO, including live radio and television broadcasts.

As Music Director of the Denver Young Artists Orchestra, Flatt has  overseen a period of dramatic growth and led the young musicians on  international tours. The DYAO is a 2007 recipient of a prestigious Meet The  Composer Music Alive award. He is also beginning a position as the Artistic  Director of the Newport Symphony, in  Oregon this season.

Colorado Ballet begins the 2007-2008 season on  October 5, 2007!   Tickets are on sale now. Please call 303.837.8888 or visit the all-new www.coloradoballet.org  for more  information.
