COLORADO BALLET ANNOUNCES 2007-2008 SEASON[/size]
DENVER- As the 2006-2007 season winds down, Colorado Ballet has been busy preparing next season. The five production line-up promises the return of some old favorites as well as several ambitious surprises. Additionally, the company will team up with Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Company to co-present a very special post-season production in spring 2008!
Colorado Balletís 47th season opens October 5th with the romantic classic LE CORSAIRE (The Pirate). Originally choreographed by Joseph Mazilier to music by Adolphe Adam in the mid-19th century, the story is based on the Lord Byron poem The Corsair. Eldar Alievís lively choreography, stunning costumes and an exciting and romantic plotline involving foreign shores and love and betrayal on the high seas will keep audiences on the edge of their seats.
Audience-favorite DRACULA needs no introduction and returns for five performances the weekend before Halloween to usher in the scary season! Bram Stokerís chilling vampiric tale features the expressive choreography of Michael Pink and a moving score by Philip Feeney.
Josť Varonaís lavish designs and Colorado Balletís compelling staging of THE NUTCRACKER also return in 2007. There will be 24 opportunities to witness this iconic holiday ballet beginning November 24 and continuing through December 24.
E.T.A. Hoffmanís storied 1815 classic COPP…LIA, about the mysterious goings on in a toyshop, comes to Colorado Ballet next spring. Described as both sentimental and comical, children of all ages will delight in the magical plot, with music by French composer Leo Delibes.
Also next spring, Colorado Ballet is extremely proud to present THE REPERTORY SERIES, a collection of 3 innovative, contemporary works from leading choreographers, featuring The Leaves Are Fading by Anthony Tudor, Smile With My Heart by Lar Lubovitch and a new work by Complexions Contemporary Ballet Artistic Director Dwight Roden. These productions are rare to Denver and new to Colorado Ballet.
As a special addition to the 2007-2008 season, Colorado Ballet, together with Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Company, will co-present Alvin Ailey American Dance Theaterís 50th Anniversary Tour. The internationally acclaimed modern dance company brings its unique choreographic stylings to the Ellie Caulkins Opera House for 3 performances only, April 4-6, 2008.
