A dear friend of mine, who like me was an NYCB devotee, went to "the other side" and got a job selling toe shoes for ABT. He basically auctioned them off at each performance to the highest bidder, sometimes getting as much as several hundred dollars. At NYCB it always was volunteers who sold them, as described above, at set prices. Policy may have changed.

Lara Teeter was MAGNIFICENT!!! He deserved much more recognition than he got!

"He partnered leading ballerinas of the day, including Alicia Markova and Alexandra Danilova. His most longstanding professional attachment, however, was with the New York City Ballet. Under the tutelage of George Balanchine, he would dance as a soloist for the company, and later as stage manager and stagehand, as well as being in charge of ordering and cataloguing ballet shoes. Throughout his New York career, he was a member of the American Guild of Musical Artists and the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees."
His loyalty, hard work and dedication were underpinnings of our enjoyment for many years.

Carl Steeg 's very interesting/detailed letter to "Ballet Alert" in response to the interview by Roslyn Sulcas is worth being seen by many people -- just as a thought provoker..... I hope he has sent it to the Times. I believe I read on Twitter that what the Times published was, as usual, bits and pieces of the interview.

I am sure we all have different and equally valid opinions. I try to keep in mind that while I don't like all -- or most-- of Peter's choreography, he has done amazing work with the Company, and, being human, many of his decisions have their roots in the less rational aspects of his being. Just like Mr. B, right?

I sent Carl's letter and my response to a group of people interested in NYCB, and got back some good responses. I hope that will also happen on Ballet Alert.

The link to the earlier interview did not work for me, which was disappointing because I respected the work of Emily Coates very much. I have heard or read about her sporadically over the years. An intelligent, lovely dancer.

By the way, I, like Carbro, was at the WTC that night to see Tharp. I also saw the Trocks that week, which had dance performances every night. Hard to even think about it.....

Did anyone see Bette Midler's 198? tape of "Art or Bust? She includes a parody/imitation of the Triadic Ballet. Totally art-worthy, very interesting. She is absolutely amazing.

My deep gratitude for Stanley Taylor's promotion. I think he has the ability to convey very deep emotions and commitment, plus an excellent line and fabulous footwork (of course I'm referring to his "Square Dance.") An actress friend of mine said that when he made his entrance in that solo, you felt he was coming from somewhere, and going to somewhere else.
