  1. So many Koreans... 6 out of 20... 5 Chinese, but then it's a bigger country...

What gives? Is it because it's a competition and this resonates in Korea or is there a big ballet movement going on there?

They are all from Korea National University of the Arts. KNUA is a famous arts university, of which, one of the intense focus areas is ballet. They have an elementary program for ages 9-19 that uses the same campus and some of the faculty. The dance program is located within the Seoul Arts Center campus. If you look at the winners of Prix de Lausanne, IBC NY and Jackson, Varna and Premio Roma, you will find they are from KNUA. Some of the excellent participants from KNUA this year at Varna, are not on the finals list. Hae Shik Kim, recently retired, was the Director of the ballet school and is well known in the ballet community. Sun hee Kim, the present Director also has an excellent reputation and is a gifted choreographer. KNUA graduates are in ballet companies all over the world.

  2. Being a certifiably curious person, I have already checked his website. Didn't see any news that would explain the Vienna website.

I did speak with someone who knows him and his family very well. I would suggest trying his email address on his website. Things are very good for him but it is heresay if I repeat it on this board.

  3. If you go to the website and click on Press, you will get the list of finalists. I believe there are three evenings of final round, and the gala and awards ceremony is Tuesday. DS has some friends there so we have been checking.

DD has several friends there also.

6 out of 10 entrants from Korea National University of the Arts placed or had honorable mention. It is an extraordinary school.
