I know this is the most random thing to say, but Donald Rumsfeld unicycled in my backyard.
He did. Back before my parents bought this house, the previous owners hosted a party where he was invited. We have a picture of him unicycling on my lawn.

you are supposed to dance in those?

i saw it last night at the 9 o'clock show. my favorite pieces were:
the first one, "memory of a free festival"
"sostenuto" to Rochmaninoff piano conerto 2
and tink tank. i saw it with morgann rose, not erin mahoney. it was beautiful and very cool.
PS: during "tink tank", i had the biggest laugh that i have ever had watching a ballet. the choreography was so humorous; especially when the 6 foot tall men bounced around with their hands cupped above their heads like bunny rabbits

saw it just a couple hours ago
it was wonderful...great choreography...music....sets were amazing
wish their had been a live orhcestra....guess they couldnt afford it
michelle jimenez amazed me....she did a balance in arabesque for very long time before beginning a PERFECT round of fuette turns
jared nelson did well as franz
elizabeth gaither and her leg lifts in her variation of prayer was great
brianne bland made a wonderful dawn
michelle jimenez, as swanild, was at her best that i have ever seen her
quite an enjoyable night

hmmmm
sorry if i am not much help
-
i did that variation for an SI audition tape...i did the petipa version.
isnt the only fan variation of kitri in the third act the one with the passes?
i watched the dvd of don q of Paris opera ballet for help. it says that it is by petipa.
someone more knowleadgable will probably confirm

new costumes, sets and everything!
my absolute nutcracker pet peeve is overly-extravagent sets for the Land of Sweets ...for instance the one in the NYCB nut movie...the narrated one.
i loved how Washington's set for Land of Sweets was so simple yet elegant....pretty colors....but not distracting
cannot wait to see arabian done with native american theme...sounds cool!

Mel said this, but for more info on this music from the cd cover:
Sergei Rachmaninov
Concerto for Piano and Orchestra no. 2 in C minor, op. 18
all three movements are beautiful. my favorite is the 3rd though.

thanks, tempusfugit, for making your and Leigh Witchel's point a bit clearer. Now i understand the reason why you might be upset. but, you should still buy tickets and see it...its gonna be great
-
sorry for bringing this up again, Leigh Witchel, but maybe we are misinterpreting the word "zany". having just returned from a Washington Ballet Midsummer rehearsal, i'm pretty sure that this one-act version is not distorted. before you decide that this is a mutation of Balanchine, please buy tickets and watch it.

Quick question about YAGP:
What will Mr. Davis and Ms. Brown get for winning the top places? Scholarships? Contracts? I can't find this on their website.
I know that it is an honor to win the Prix, or the first place, but what else is rewarded?
