I heard a wonderful interview on the local NPR station with Marcello and Sara. They were delightful in the interview, and made me really want to see them dance together. Our family has discussed the schedule, and hope we could make the Monday night performance....

We attended the Theatre District open house today specifically because we wanted to see what Houston Ballet had for sale in its "garage sale." It was a bust. Both HB and Houston Grand Opera had costumes, and many, many accessories for sale. There were lots of interesting things to look at, but nothing that we just had to have.

13-year-old DD was horrified as her dad put on various heads, masks, and hats!

It was a great outing even though we did not pick up anything.

The Tales of Texas was a lot of fun. Clearly it is very different, but everyone in our group loved it. Our favorite was the part set to Patsy Cline's songs. It was very colorful and quite clever.

The music was wonderful. The first part is set to music by Aaron Copeland. It was just beautiful.

If you're looking for something traditional, this would not be it!

Thanks for posting the cast list. I do have tickets for Sunday afternoon. My daughter and I have invited a dance friend and her mom to join us.

I was hoping to catch a review in the Chronicle, but have not spotted one. Please let me know what you think if you get to go before me.

I am very intrigued with this performance. My daughter does not want to dress in western wear as encouraged in last week's Chronicle article! As I do not really own any western wear, I doubt that I will, either.

There is a great article in the Chronicle today about Tales. There are interviews with Stanton Welch, and ?? Pierce, the fellow who wrote the score for the piece entitled Pecos.

I read it online, but I think it appears in the Zest section. I think it will be very interesting, and lots of fun.

I really liked the movie - but next time I will probably watch it on DVD. Maybe this would be a good time to get that large TV screen my husband keeps talking about!?

Thanks for posting this link. Once again, I have learned a lot on Ballet Alert.

I don't mean to be morbid, but in reading about the disease, I am curious. How long was Mr. B sick? During his illness, was he diagnosed with the disease, or was it daignosed after his death? Does anyone know how he came to have the disease?

I have not seen this show, but I did tape it, and am planning to watch it over the weekend. I did watch the beginning for just a few minutes last night while folding laundry.

Please tell me what CJ is. I have never heard of this disease. Is it like Alz's in it's symptoms? Is it a subset of some sort of Alz's?

I am just curious how some could think Balanchine died of one disease, and others are so sure about another. Please understand that I am not questioning those who have posted - I just wondered if the diseases are similar.

I don't know what part of Houston you are in, but the theatre in Houston where it is showing is a neat little theatre. There is great shopping and eating nearby. You may like to make a special outing of it.

I would not call it feel good.

I loved this movie, and did not want it to end. It ended rather abruptly - I was not quite ready for it. My dd, and her non-ballet (but dances other stuff) friend also loved it. We really liked the fact that there was not a plot - it was just glimpses into different parts of people's lives.

For me as a relative ballet novice (compared to many on this board), the dancing was wonderful. I liked all of it. I loved the characters.

It was a couple of days before my daughter and I were able to really talk about it. We both agree that it is not a movie for everyone. The fact that it is not a "story" would probably be off-putting to some.

One interesting thing for me was the development of a couple of the ballet parent characters. They were highly neurotic and controlling characters. This was so realistic for what we have seen in my daughter's years of dancing. On the Parent's forum there is a discussion about the degree of parent's involvement in the dancing lives of their children.
