Ooh, PK, discount stores would be fabulous! Good one. Hmm, I think I would have to say I would like for there to be a wider selction of ballet videos and more ballet on TV! I don't understand why the nation practically sees Super Bowl Sunday as a national holiday, and the whole country is glued to the TV, while we are lucky to get 4 good ballets on TV in a year! What is this?

Hmm, I think I would have to say that I agree with Andrew on pretty much everything! Yes, the bed scene was cheap and highly unnecessary. And I agree, the difference in effect of the dance to drums and the same combination with the music they used was very different. But yes, they must please the general public. Okay, I am done, I think.

I just wanted to mention how thankful I am that people are consoling us from all over the world. Even though I wasn't near what happened and didn't have any people invloved, it still hurt, because it was not only an attack on NYC and Washington, but all of America. I think it is so awesome whenever I hear people from other countries giving their support. A big thank you to all of you out there!

My thoughts and prayers are with you all and especially with those of you in dangerous areas. I am so glad to hear that we are all ok. I wonder how SAB/NYCB are, or are they far away from the WTC? I've never been to NYC, so I don't know..... God Bless!

Thank you very much, Lily. I will be sure to keep that in mind during next year's si audition season. Thanks again!

A question concerning this school: Every year at si audition time I go to their site and see where their audition sites are. They always seem to have audition sites in Canada, bt not in the United States. I always wondered if it is possible for Americans to get into their summer program, because I'm really interested in them. So, I guess my question is do they have a method of Americans (and other foreigners) to get in without hopping on a plane to Toronto, and if so, please share!! Thank you very much in advance.

Well, being from Atlanta, and knowing how Atlanta ballet is, I don't find it very hard to believe that they will do this. I must admit that I haven't heard about this, but it doesn't surprise me. Atlanta Ballet is always doing stuff like that. To be honest, I'm not a big fan of Atlanta Ballet, because they are not as good as you might expect a regional company like them to be. It's dissapointing. I will try to find out more info on this, as people from my studio have several links to the company and its students and apprentices. I will let you know what I find out!

I agree, Alexandra. I don't hold the book against her, though I feel that she did make some wrong choices, such as cocaine. I feel sorry for her because of her anorexia. I do agree that she was sick.

I'm almost finished with the book Dancing on my Grave. It seems as though she was never happy except when she was a young girl. I have admired her greatly just from seeing the Kirkland/Baryshnikov Nutcracker movie, but it makes me respect her less because of the horrible way she has run her life. It's very discouraging. Hollyberry: I am taking into consideration what you said about Gelsey's classes at SBT. As some of you know, I was accepted to the summer program there but am still waiting for a reply for scholarship! I think that this may have to be a last minute thing. Sorry, that was a little off the subject!

Hey! I'm a little over half way into Dancing on my Grave. It's interesting, yet very negative. I'll let you know what I think when I finish it.
-
Jeannie- I agree! It is very interesting. I also think that people would be more interested in getting the movie than the book. My three cents!

Hello again. I just rented a copy of Dancing on my Grave. So far it's interesting, but I'm only on the third chapter. Anyway I'll let you know what I think of it when I'm done!

Hey, guys! Does anyone know of any websites or e-mail addresses on Gelsey Kirkland? Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I first saw a Christian dance company perform when I was five and fell in love with it. I became driven to take lessons there. I became a part of that same company five years later and am still a part of that company today! Alexandra: I hope I get to go to SBT too, but like I said before: it all depends on scholarship!
PS: sorry for the delayed reply!

Okay, this is going to be B-O-R-I-N-G!! Anyway, I guess I just heard about dance through the grape vine. My parents and I spent a lot of time trying to find a dance studio. Then we found one and I'm now forever attached to ballet. Okay, there's my piece.

Now I've got the chills!! My favorite moment is when Gelsey Kirkland stands up to follow Drosselmyer at the very end of The Nutcracker (ABT) when the music is at a beautiful crescendo. It's breath taking!!!!

Does anyone know of any websites, e-mail addresses, or anything else on/for Kirkland? If so, please post them here or e-mail me at prima87@juno.com
Thanks!

Hey! Same day, later time. I just received a letter from Southern Ballet Theatre saying that I was accepted into their program. I'm very excited that GELSEY KIRKLAND will be guest teaching there!! I have always dreamed to train with her, and now I have the opportunity! I do hope that I get to go!!!

Yes, alexandra, I'm one of those Kirkland lovers. Yes I did see her on the nutcracker video with Barishnikov. She was absolutely wonderful. She has such expression. By the way, this is a great thread!

I agree with kitsker. Gelsey Kirkland is fab. I have a video of her and Barishnikov doing The Nutcracker and it is absolutely breathtaking!! I auditioned for Southern Ballet Theatre's summer intensive program where she will be guest teaching. If I make it, I will be sooo exited to work with her, as well as Irina Kolpakova, who will also be there.

Something I have noticed about the little I have seen of Julie Kent is the way she uses her arms. Her arms are always held yet expressive, and it is so pretty to watch. I also agree about her feet and legs and the way they are so supported. Possibly something to do with being pulled up and held. Something to remember while we dance....
