  1. Ahh that's what I'm talking about (refer to all posts above). Thanks everyone for sharing, some great discussion points too.

It's interesting that one refers to "going to the ballet" as opposed to "going to the contemporary". I must say that I am partial to the traditional performances and should I have the very rare opportunity to go see a performance, I certainly would choose a classical over contemporary every time. I will also add that I do enjoy contemporary performances but I'm simply emphasising which one I'd choose if I had to make a choice.

Question- What do any of you think of the Western Australian Ballet Company? How (in your opinions) do they fair in comparison to say the Australian Ballet company or other companies for that matter?:)

  2. I have the "Beyond 40" on video. It's excellent, and one of my students has the book which is absolutely beautiful.

Thanks for the info floss. Will be glad to hear anything else about the Aussie Ballet Company.

  3. Now you've got me started:

I would like to know what productions are in season, upcoming events, information about the companies principals, audition information for the Aussie Ballet School, the next tour, clubs for kids. STOP that's enough for now. :sweating:

    Thanks Floss

  4. I would like to know if there are any good book/video stores in Australia where you can ring and get exactly what you want. I have yet to find somewhere in my own country that is able to satisfy my requests when I ring and ask, not "we'll search for you and then..... sorry we can't get that".

The DVD 's have to suit players in Australia just like VHS tapes need to be in PAL form. It makes purchasing these things difficult and/or expensive with exchange rates etc.

  5. Brilliant- I thought it was my computer that made me have to click, click, click to get back to where I was. Can be annoying when you are so impatient and excited to see all the new posts immediately.

[snip -- I answered a question in a PM; at]

Am I able to go somewhere to bring up all MY posts?

  6. I can only speak from an RAD point of view but we have barre at the barre and centre paractice (without a barre) which include ports de bras, tendus etc when coming to the cerntre. As far as terminology for young children to remember things, I relate them to their level of understanding for example: en dehors goes out the door, en dedans (emphasise the N) comes in, and if any teachers do character work, pas de ( b)asques = b for ball (of the foot) and cifras (c my foot) showing a flexed foot. Just a couple of examples I use to help students learn the correct terminology and to remember what means what.

Hope this is still within this thread discussion
