  1. Good thoughts, dancersteven. I am a great fan of the books, and thought the movies were very good, and though they were not as good as they might have been, nor as true, they could have been much worse.

I think the quote that BW is looking for is this one- I love it too.

Frodo: I wish the ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

Gandalf: So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you were also meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought.

    Happy New Year to all!

  2. Well, I certainly agree with everything said here so far, but even if a guy is a wonderful dancer it takes something away if you know he has a huge ego, or is mean and snobby. But a good strong technique makes a man's dancing clean and strong, and masculine.

  3. Well, I have a shirt that says "dancer" on it, but it's spelled out of "ballet", "jazz", ect. (different types of dance) So it's kind of hard to read. And my friend's Mom though it said danger. She wondered what I was doing hanging out with HER daughter with a shirt advertising my danger. ;)

  4. I have a question for you, Grace. (yes, I'm one of those viewers looking on ;))

Ok, I understand everything you've told us so far, I think, but how do you know what step they are doing in the Benesh notations? Do you have to memorize all the different kinds of steps/movement lines? Or is there some rule that lets you read it kind of like music? I don't think I'm asking this very well. But I have been enjoying this thread, and I watched that dancer dance with her movement lines several times because it was so cool!

  5. Ok, this is a quote I stumbled across on some random ballet site...I don't remember where. In case anyone doesn't know Isadora Duncan was an early ballerina, and while I don't know much about her I'm pretty sure she should have known what she was talking about. Here is a quote that goes to show fashions change!

"The real American type can never be a ballet dancer.

The legs are too long, the body too supple and the spirit too free for this school

of affected grace and toe walking."

    ---Isadora Duncan

  6. Hey again!

    My strengths...

Adazio, waltzy stuff, attitude turns, grande allegro.

    My weaknesses...

turns, petite allegro, arabesque turns in particullar.

But over all I can turn ok, so don't drop a cool variation just because it has some turns. fouettes are not so good.

    Thanks again!

  7. Thank you for all the replies! I actually need two variations prepared, but I'm not sure if that means I'll have to do them both.

Anyway, I got some good ideas from this, thanks!

    :(

ps. If anyone didn't get a chance to respond yet go ahead! I'm not saying this is enough ideas. More ideas are always helpful. ;)

  8. hey,

Does anyone have any particular favorite variations? I'm looking for some, and I wondered if anyone knew of any that aren't too long, but that are on pointe. Just for one person please. :) I'm looking for these for an auditon for a scholarship, just so you know.

Anyway, thanks for any help.

  9. Thank you guys so much! :) You gave me some really good things to go by, and I'll try to get ahold of one of these pretty soon. I've heard some music that I really like by David Howard, but I think he's made bunches of cds, so I'd have a lot to chose from. ;)

Anyway, Thanks so much for all the info! :D
