Also a fabulous performance of Diana and Acteon by Takumi Miyake, new apprentice at ABT. He was awarded the Ninette de Valois Prize at Royal Ballet School for the most outstanding male graduate of  the year but was unable to be auditioned for Royal Ballet because he was injured then.

osipova brought him out to perform flames of paris when she did her show in new york earlier this year- had no idea who he was at the time but he was mind blowing!! he will climb the company ranks quickly.

The footage posted is from the live feed at Wolf Trap and the audience sees it on jumbo screens on each side of the stage. Plus 2 on the sides of the lawn, and a super jumbo screen in the middle.  Footage posted by Brandt, Gonzalez, Ischuk and perhaps more would have been recorded on phones by colleagues from a lounge flat screen.  Wolf Trap has 5 fixed cameras, planned zooms, etc and can also use handhelds.   I think Brandt posted it "looked like a movie."   The lounges and back stage areas for performers are also lovely- recently renovated.   Extensive HVAC backstage.

First day of operation for the simulcast was for the Washington Ballet Giselle 2018.  ABT R&J was 2017 but it's 2019 Swan Lakes were on the jumbotron.  Depending where you sit, the stage and screen are in your sight line.   We saw 7/27 which was a great show and could be marketed from the recording.  MIssed seeing 7/28 - was going to try to catch act 2 but could not.

Thanks so much for clarification! do you think it would be possible for ABT to retain the footage from the live? have they been able retain WT live footage in the past? it would be a total shame if they couldn’t. Brandt’s giselle is a very coveted one after all

And Roxander knocked it out of the park with his superb dancing as Mercutio.

The audience loved him and he seemed super in character, right before Mercutio’s death when Mercutio tries to convince romeo to take a sword against tybalt and romeo refuses, you could see Roxander mouthing “just take it / just take one” to Bell. small detail that i loved, he has left such a good impression on me this season and i hope he gets promoted soon!

Not sure if this info has already been put out onto this forum, but I listened to James Whiteside’s podcast with Misty Copeland which was released February of 2023. She says that she’ll “definitely [be] dancing in, I think, Romeo and Juliet and Giselle in the spring.”

Not sure if this means Giselle and R&J will on during MET season again, just something to ponder haha.

i think she meant met 2023 season because since they’re doing swan lake at the kennedy center in 2024 that would mean swan lake at the met in 2024. so swan lake, R&J, and giselle is almost a complete repeat of the 2023 season and i doubt jaffe would do that.

So happy to see a full house, but some of the audience behavior makes me wish it weren’t so full.

I understand the desire to document a night out, but taking multiple photos and SCROLLING through them during the show boggles the mind. The social contract is in the shredder.

is the met not extremely strict about phones? sometimes it feels like the ushers will come barging in with little their flashlights at the slightest hint of a phone screen being on.

Welcome to the club! Was there a standout performance or experience (virtual or live) that really got you hooked?

thanks :) im pretty sure I spent days binge watching videos of the black swan coda seeing which ballerinas could do the most impressive fouettés then I just fell into the black hole of ballet clips available on youtube. then once ABT announced the met 2022 season I was ecstatic. I’ve been to 10 ballets since then. Luckily my mom is an ex dancer (big mariinsky fan) so I always have someone to go with and she is very glad i’ve joined the ballet fan club on my own lol.

  7. young ballet fans are rare but we do exist!! I got into ballet as a non dancer during the pandemic, at first it was a causal thing but I fell down the rabbit hole quite quickly! I am starting college in a month-ish for age reference and have been spending this summer bringing my friends who know little to nothing about ballet to see ABT. The responses have been extremely positive even though they didn’t have high expectations at first hahaha.

  8. I’m sorry but i would love a brandt/bell swan lake one day. i don’t care about the ridiculous height difference (brandt at 5’2 and bell is 6’3 for anyone who didn’t know). I’ve watched the videos skylar posted on her youtube where they danced swan lake together at boca ballet theatre and it looked amazing(height difference wasn’t all that bothersome) they are both some of ABT’s strongest dancers at the moment. Just a thought i felt the need to share

Posting here since I don't see a thread for R+J yet.

Between Murphy and Shevchenko, which one would you recommend seeing as Juliet?

I have never seen either, and know that Murphy is likely to retire soon, so I'm weighing that too. And I'm attending with a friend who is new to ballet.

there’s a video of shevchenko as juliet from summer 2022 met season on youtube. just search her name followed by romeo and juliet. should give you an idea of what her juliet is like.

  10. beautiful fouettés from isabella today. sharp and fast singles that finished with a triple. waski had a rough landing at the end of big swans and had to put her hand on the floor for a second before finishing but nothing too bad. thomas and isabella did a good job today in regards to partnering considering the 3 day replacement notice. looking forward to brandt/cornejo tomorrow

  11. misseldine and roxander stole the show tonight for me! misseldine was so willowy and femininely beautiful while still maintaining that commanding myrtha aura. i see what everyone meant with the comments about her pointe shoes being loud but i thought it was ignorable during the show for the most part. the audience loved her and roxander. He got booming applause after his variations. Skylar was a good giselle in act 1 but when the act finished i still felt like something was left missing// a sense of unsatisfaction, her mad scene felt a bit too rushed for my liking (I love a big and dramatic mad scene), but her act 2 was divine and everyone around me was mesmerized by her. Overall i thought it was enjoyable and i would most likely see her dance this role again in the future.

  12. trenary posted a photo of gillian murphy in the studio in full titania costume for the dream. praying to god that it’s a throwback from last years shoot but based off the similar met season  programming we got this year compared to last year you never know!

  13. does anyone know what ballet the costumes that ABT is having a photoshoot for belong to? it can be seen on cate hurlin’s instagram and zimmi cokers as well. white tutus and black as well. not swan lake or bayadere from the detailing. any thoughts ?

  14. was thinking about ABT’s swan lake and watching an old video of it. During act 3 they used to change/ dim the lights during odile’s entrance and pdd-coda (i think) i thought it added so much to the production & made it more mysterious  realized that for the last run of swan lake they left the lighting completely bright for the whole third act. Idk just a weird observation i had and wanted to ask if anyone knows when they stopped dimming the lights// noticed this too. hopefully they make the switch back to dim lights for act 3 this season
