Hi everyone

Romola Nijinsky was interviewed on tape by Donya Feuer in Stockholm, June 1974.

The interview was used by Feuner in her documentary on the life of Nijinsky, which was produced by J. Andreassen for Norsk Rikskringkasting (NRK) in 1974. The documentary included readings from Nijinsky's diary read by Knut Husebo. It was aired on Norwegian television in April 1975 with a narration read by Anne Marit Jacobsen.

After serious googling I can find no other record of this interview, or any audio tape or transcript.

i just uploaded one of the bits of footage you mention - Tamara Karsavina and Peter Wladimiroff (German spelling) performing part of a pas de deux from 'Sylvia' (1925).

It comes from the German naturist documentary 'Wege zu Kraft und Schonheit' (1925), variously known as 'Ways to Strength and Beauty' and 'Path to the Power and Beauty'.

The film was directed by Wilhelm Prager, with Nicholas Kaufman as the screenwriter.

The aim of the piece was to contrast the hopeless of life in the cities in the 1920s with an idealised existence of the countryside.

i've just noticed that the three episodes ('body and soul', 'chemistry' and 'great roles') from natalia makarova's 'ballerina' documentary are no longer on You Tube - i'll upload them later today - as 'ballerina' has had no commercial release, it's a pity for people not to have access to these programs

I was wondering if anyone knew if it was still possible to purchase two particular films on Serge de Diaghilev and the Ballets Russes.

In 1968, these two films as programs were broadcast under the banner of Omnibus, Season Two - 'Diaghilev: The Years Abroad' (which aired as Episode One on 2 January) and 'Diaghilev: The Years in Exile' (which aired as Episode Two on 9 January.

I've noticed on the BFI | Film & TV Database site that these were at one time available for sale.

If anyone knew where either or both of these films could be bought, I would be ever lastingly grateful

Hello everyone!

I'm very pleased to be a member of Ballet Alert!

A bit about me by way of introduction.

I did my training at the Australian Dance Theatre School in Adelaide with Rex Reid as my main teacher. Rex had gone to London as a prodigy, like Robert Helpmann, but in the 1950's. After dancing with Festival Ballet and Ballet Rambert, Rex formed a company in South Africa with Princess Natasha Watchinadze, a Georgian who had fled the USSR with George Balanchine and Alexandra Danilova in the 1920's, and later married a sometime Diaghilev designer to become Natasha Kirsta. Rex and Natasha formed Ballet Kirsta, which performed, among venues, at the Winter Garten in New York. They finally moved to Australia to direct and run the ADT school.

Rex Reid came from the old school of dance instruction where, with a rapier slashing tongue, the pedagogue would bully students into progress. I recall him once correcting my port de bras - 'looks as though you are wearing earrings' - the shoulders were too lifted up and tense.

In my early twenties my life took a new direction - into academia.

I've lived in different parts of the world: London for five years, Paris for a year and the Peoples' Republic of China for a year, to mention a few.

I worked till retirement at the University of New South Wales, lecturing on Semiotic Theory on a Masters Degree program.

I still have a passionate interest in dance and hope to be able to participate usefully in the forums and other aspects of the Ballet Alert! site.

About 10 years ago on A&E, Natalia Makarova hosted a documentary series called "Ballerina". It was a really great documentary. I was wondering if anyone knew if it has been released on video or DVD.
