its the mom
Wasn't sure where to post this question. I was just curious. I saw that ABT did the Sylvia pas this fall and that it also appears on the imposed list at YAGP. Is this Balanchine piece public domain? Link to comment
Leigh Witchel
According to this article in the law journal of Villanova University, it is not in the public domain (at least, Balanchine's version). The ballet is wholly owned by Leda Eglevsky - though I think she has died so it has probably devolved to her heirs, and may still be administered by the Trust. It might make sense to ask someone at ABT - since it is in their repertory, they would would know who they contact for permission to perform it. Link to comment
aubri
Sylvia the Balanchine version is not public domain and you must go through the Balanchine Trust to ask for the rights. Link to comment

its the mom
Aubri: Can you explain why the Sylvia Pas is on the imposed list at Youth Grand Prix? Link to comment
aubri
I have to warn you that it was a controversy last year and I would suggest that you choose another variation and I think that the Grand Prix should take it out of it's list;) Link to comment
its the mom
Thanks Aubri. Not thinking about doing Grand Prix, but an arts award program. Will steer clear of the piece. Thanks again. Link to comment
