Major Software Upgrade Coming Later in 2025 (or 2026).

I just did the latest minor/security upgrade, and, lo and behold, there was an announcement that a major upgrade to version 5 has launched.  They have not announced an exact end-of-life date for our current v4 -- it currently says 2025/26 -- but they promise to give a lot of advanced notice.

Aside from the usual UI disruptions -- it will likely take a while to get the setting back to normal -- I did see one thing that will impact all members:

Invisionzone is going to require that we use our registered email addresses, rather than our display names, to log in.

The "for more information" they sent me to a general forum, where there was no discussion about this.

A lot of people signed up many years ago and either don't remember their email on file, or that email isn't even one they have anymore.  Since the board only sends email in general at the beginning of registration and then if you're signed up for email notifications -- and if you are, and it goes to a non-existing email address, you won't know it -- it's not something that stops people from using the site.

You can change your email address at any time by:

1. Clicking on your username in the upper right corner.

2. Choose "Account Settings"

Your email address on file will be displayed.  If you want to change it, click the word Change to the right of it. (It doesn't look like a link, but it is.)

That's the first part.  A lot of people have not been signed out for as long as they remember, or they switched browsers and didn't import their passwords.  Which means when the change happens, you'll need to sign in again, and, if you've forgotten both your email address and your password, you'll be in a pickle.  If you have the email address on file, you should be able to reset your password, if you've forgotten it.

I'll post updates as they come.
