its the mom
Fall Experience will include a new work by Principal Lia Cirio: Boston Ballet dancer brings career-long vision to life by choreographing world premiere of new show - CBS Boston (cbsnews.com) Link to comment
Marta
I saw the Fall Experience program yesterday. Of the 4 ballets, I liked Ein von Viel by Matthews and Pite's The Seasons' Canon. I was not impressed by Cirio's work. She choreographed 24 short dances to 24 preludes by Auerbach, a contemporary composer. Both the music and the choreography were OK, but not distinctive. Her use of flexed feet didn't always work with the generally conventional ballet choreography and I did not understand why the women wore red leotards or shorts under the knee length costumes. I've seen Elo's Plan to B and my reaction then was "I never want to see this again." My opinion hasn't changed. This work is unrelenting frantic gross motor movement. Dancers Sun Woo Lee and Yue Shi were great in the Matthews piece, described in the program as a collaboration between two dancers and a pianist. The piano was onstage and the two male dancers were excellent. This ballet can also be danced by two women. Pite's ballet was very different from the other three on the program. It was darker, more dramatic, had a tragic aspect, and was not danced on pointe, and was performed by the entire company. I look forward to seeing these two ballets again. Some of the dancers I particularly liked in the November 3 program were Kapitonova, Fentroy, Sangmin Lee, Sun Woo Lee, Yue Shi, Derek Dunn, Chae. Link to comment
its the mom
This is what makes the world go round. Something for everyone in this program. I think Ein von Viel is a tired piece. Nothing new - well danced by every cast, but boring. I thought Cirio's work reflected the talent of each of the dancers well. The music was different . The piece had a dystopian feel to it, relating well to the music. Plan to B is always exciting to watch as the dancers, especially J. Cirio, are whirling dervishes. It is definitely my favorite Elo piece. It took me several times of watching to like the Pite piece, each time noticing something different, to really enjoy it. The unison of the dancers was spectacular, and I am anxious to see more of her work in Boston or elsewhere on the east coast. Pite definitely makes a statement. As a side note, Derek Dunn did not dance in this program. He is still out. So, you must have seen someone else that you liked, but definitely not Derek. Link to comment

Marta
As a side note, Derek Dunn did not dance in this program. He is still out. So, you must have seen someone else that you liked, but definitely not Derek. its the mom: There was an announcement before the performance that Jeffrey Cirio would be replaced by ... The name sounded like Derek Dunn. Whoever it was, he was very good. I don't think the age of a work is what makes it fresh or not. Ein von Viel was new to me. Link to comment
