The Joffrey + Ballet in the US: NYPL exhibit

Recommended Posts

The NYPL Performing Arts Library at Lincoln Center has a splendid new exhibit now through March 1, 2025, on The Joffrey + Ballet in the US. I just saw it today and recommend it highly. Many video clips, documents, costumes, and more tell the story of the Joffrey. But it is also a too-familiar story of dance in the US -- constant financial struggles, the devastation of AIDS on the dance community, the search for new choreographers. I always appreciated the Joffrey reconstructions, shown on PBS, of classic works including Parade, Sacre, and Nijinska's Les Noces, all included in the exhibit.  It's free, of course.

Thnks for the info, California. I'll be sure to go. In case there is interest in Joffrey, I was able to watch the documentary about him and his company for free with commercials https://tubitv.com/movies/319699/joffrey-mavericks-of-american-dance.

It's called Joffrey Mavericks of American Dance.
