dirac Posted August 25 Share Posted August 25 Former San Francisco Ballet dancer Ellen Hummel joins a suit by Mathilde Froustey against the San Francisco Ballet Association. Quote Hummel’s suit alleges that Gibbs, a volunteer company physician since 1991, provided painkillers and injections for a hip injury with “reckless disregard” for her health and well-being in 2023. The suit also claims that the defendants administered their advice and medical services for the sole benefit of the Ballet without properly diagnosing Hummel’s injury, resulting in surgery for hip dysplasia and ending her career. Quote Yet the musicologist Simon Morrison, of Princeton University, presents the composer as a head-down plowhorse in “Tchaikovsky’s Empire.” Announcing upfront that his biography focuses less on personal history than on the music itself, Mr. Morrison casts a skeptical eye on the archetype of the Romantic artist in thrall to the storms of life. “To produce as much music as he did—an entire empire’s worth—Tchaikovsky had to be hyperfocused and hyperdisciplined, not lurching from one personal crisis to another and indulging morbid fantasies.” Link to comment

Quote The festival was inaugurated with a performance of "Swan Lake" by the Izmir State Opera and Ballet at Bodrum Castle. Over the course of the festival, various performances were showcased, including "Carmen" by the Samsun State Opera, "The Great Gatsby" by the Mersin State Opera and Ballet, "Güldestan" by the Istanbul State Opera and Ballet and "Ballet Latino Tango" by the guest company Basileu Franca. The festival concluded with the highly acclaimed "Zorba," performed by the Ankara State Opera and Ballet. Link to comment
