Drew
On three different social media sites I have seen news of Marina Kondratieva's death, though I can't find an announcement on the Bolshoi website. A great ballerina and a great teacher and coach. What a legacy! [And thank you to @volcanohunter for correcting me on her given name.] Here is Osipova's Instagram followed by Smirnova's: I am sure there are and will be many other such tributes https://www.instagram.com/p/C9NHTfcJmTz/?img_index=1 https://www.instagram.com/p/C9LFQcPoUfq/ Edited July 9 by Drew Link to comment
volcanohunter
I think you meant Marina. It hasn't been translated into English. Much of the time the Bolshoi no longer bothers. https://bolshoi.ru/news/in-memoriam/8490-Marina-Kondratieva-has-passed/ With dancers of her generation it's somewhat interesting to note who opted for a religious service and who didn't. volcanohunter
The Bolshoi wasted no time in removing her page from its website. But it's still up on the old site. The English bios there were last updated quite a while ago. For many years she tended to coach young dancers coming into the company, before they moved on to another coach. Following the pandemic this was no longer the case, and she had basically stopped working. Some of her pupils over the years included Lyudmila Semenyaka, Galina Stepanenko, Anna Antonicheva, Ekaterina Shipulina, Natalia Osipova, Olga Smirnova, Yulia Stepanova, Margarita Shrainer, Chinara Alizade, Anna Tikhomirova, Nelli Kobakhidze, Ana Turazishvili and Antonina Chapkina. https://2011.bolshoi.ru/en/persons/ballet/431/ Edited July 9 by volcanohunter Link to comment
Drew
I remember two stories about Osipova working with Kondratieva--one was that Osipova said she had wanted to work with a more lyrical ballerina like Kondratieva when joining the Bolshoi as she felt that was the area she need to develop. The other was that that Kondratieva wept when she learned Osipova would be dancing in sneakers for In The Upper Room. I do not vouch for either of these stories, but they both appeared in early features about Osipova when she was first coming to wider attention. Link to comment
