dirac
A review of Sarasota Ballet by Brian Seibert in The New York Times. Quote Lang’s “Shades of Spring,” her first work for the company, is fresh, inventive and pretty — modestly so. Video projections by Roxane Revon give the dance a background of nature: roots and flowers and their watery reflections. The choreography picks up on the theme with images of insect life and daisy-chain connectedness. Review of SB by Ivy Lin for Bachtrack. Quote The dancers of Sarasota Ballet presented Birthday Offering in true Ashton style – modest, charming, with an emphasis on small changes in the upper body. Somewhere along the line I thought that Fonteyn probably would have held the balances in the pas longer and with more panache than Maccarena Gimenez did last night, but Sarasota Ballet is a small regional company of limited means. dirac
Houston Ballet will perform in Japan for the first time this fall. Quote The excitement doesn’t end with the leading ladies either. For those who are not fans of the first act of Swan Lake, Welch has changed up the usual pas de trois for a variation performed by four of the prince’s potential wives and several male dancers. The male group choreography and folk dances throughout the whole performance have an upbeat energy about it that differs from Petipa and Ivanov’s original. Not quite Russian nor English, Welch’s Swan Lake materializes as a distinctly American performance – it’s dynamic, fast-paced, bold, and evokes the kind of emotion that can only be experienced in the theater.
