Atlanta Ballet prepares a new mixed bill.

Quote

Impressed by their creativity, Nedvigin “wanted to know what else they had to say” and asked Kane and Souza to present work as part of “Firebird,” the title of the company’s upcoming mixed bill. Kane brought back “Dr. Rainbow’s Infinity Mirror,” and Souza created a new work, “Inherited.” Both will be presented alongside Yuri Possokhov’s “Firebird” and “Fauna,” a world premiere by choreographer-in-residence Claudia Schreier.

"Perspectives" on Matthew Bourne's Nutcracker by Jess Rushton and Charis Gambon for Redbrick.

The dancing appeared effortless, each performer dancing with apparent ease. As a ballet dancer myself, I can only begin to appreciate the stamina, strength, and effort it takes to make such powerful steps graceful in appearance. The entire company was incredible but special praise must be given to The Cupids (Enrique Ngbokta and Shoko Ito) who provided light comic relief as they tried to reunite Clara and the Nutcracker throughout the second act. Their pairing was beautiful and their acting alongside the dancing really made them stand out in the company.

Ballet Arizona presents "Romeo and Juliet."

Quote

The ballet, choreographed by Ballet Arizona’s renowned Artistic Director Ib Anderson, is a feast for the eyes and ears with sweepingly regal ballroom scenes, vivacious swordplay, and poignant pas de deux to the tune of Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev’s dramatic and moving score. A production for ballet, literature, and classical music fans alike—Romeo & Juliet seamlessly blends the touching yet tragic story of doomed love with Prokofiev’s rich score. The score is rarely heard in its entirety but will be performed in full by the acclaimed Phoenix Symphony, making Romeo & Juliet a must see for all performing arts fans.

A preview of BalletMet's "Giselle" by Peter Tonguette for The Columbus Dispatch.

“For the dancers that we have, and for myself (and) the rehearsal directors, ‘Giselle’ is in our DNA,” said Artistic Director Edwaard Liang, who has revised, but not reimagined, the original choreography.

The performances represent the company’s first production of “Giselle” since 2018 and first large-scale, non-“Nutcracker” production of any kind since February 2020.
