dirac
Tamara Rojo is appointed the new artistic director of San Francisco Ballet. Quote Rojo was selected after a nearly yearlong search process that began as soon as Tomasson announced his decision to retire, said board member Fran Streets, who led the search committee along with Sunnie Evers. The New York Times Quote In a video interview, Tomasson said he had no voice in the selection of his successor but had hoped that the person would continue “building a major company and trying new things.” Rojo, he said, “has been able to elevate English National Ballet to a much higher level internationally, which was what I was asked to do when I came to San Francisco. She has acquired new choreography and respected the classics. So there is a little bit of a comparison.” The Guardian The Stage The Sunday Times Quote The move will involve personal upheaval too. Born in Canada and brought up in Spain, Rojo has been based in the UK for most of her life and in London for 25 years. She lives in the West End with her partner, Isaac Hernández, the 31-year old lead principal at English National Ballet, and their nine-month-old son, Mateo. They will both move with her to San Francisco, with Hernández joining the company as a dancer. It will be another blow to English National Ballet, but anything else would have been “completely impossible”, says Rojo. Link to comment

dirac
A review of the Royal Ballet in "Romeo and Juliet" by Teresa Guerreiro for CultureWhisper. Quote A ballerina couldn’t wish for a more reliable partner, nor a young woman a more besotted lover. A tad unsteady in his ballroom solo, Bonelli came into his own in the balcony pas de deux, his masterful partnering allowing Nuñez to dance with seemingly reckless (but, of course, perfectly controlled) abandon.
