A review of American Ballet Theatre by Gia Kourlas in The New York Times.

Quote

As part of American Ballet Theater’s fall gala presented Tuesday, Lang unveiled the premiere of “ZigZag,” her latest, to 10 songs recorded by Bennett. In “It’s De-Lovely,” he’s joined by Lady Gaga; theirs is a musical partnership that has been as fortifying as it is sweet. But the same can’t be said of “ZigZag,” which is like one of those gleaming, architectural desserts held together by a web of spun sugar — you take a bite and realize it’s made of air.

A review of the National Ballet of Japan in "Swan Lake" by Naomi Mori for Bachtrack.

Quote

This opening performance was memorable due to the flawless interpretation of Odette/Odile by Yui Yonezawa. Praised for her magnificent technique and polished long lines, this time we could see this prima ballerina evolving to a new dimension. Her Odette was sublime, fluid and ethereal, caught in a tragic destiny and eternally alone. Every move was natural, clean and her arms were like airy wings, while in the Act 2 coda, her passés were fast and powerful. As the Black Swan Odile, Yonezawa dazzled with seductive, irresistible charm and threw multiple triple turns in her triumphant fouettés. In the final act, she offered a sense of forgiveness to Siegfried but surrendered to her fatal destiny.

A review of "Fall for Dance" Program 5 by Marina Harss for DanceTabs.

Quote

Even so, it was a somewhat reduced version of the festival. There were three rather than four offerings per night, no intermission, and most of the companies and dancers were local. These are all reasonable adjustments to Covid times. The fifth program, which I attended on the 24th, revealed a close connection between this festival and the Vail Dance Festival, led by Damian Woetzel. One piece, Alexei Ratmansky’s Fandango, was co-presented by Vail, and another, Justin Peck’s Bloom, was a co-commission. Both were accompanied onstage by the music ensemble Brooklyn Rider, Vail favorites. But the final work of the program was a purely Fall for Dance commission, as well as a world premiere: Ayodele Casel’s tap suite Where We Dwell. It provided a joyful closing to the festival.
