dirac
A review of English National Ballet by Lyndsey Winship in The Guardian. Quote There are classics from the vaults: the whirl of petticoats that is Coppélia (or extracts from it), featuring a strong solo from Jeffrey Cirio, who looks like he’s made of lean, rock-hard muscle, all sharp lines and textbook placing. Francesco Gabriele Frola provides fireworks, flying through Ali’s solo from Le Corsaire, and Isaac Hernández is on good form in the Black Swan pas de deux from Swan Lake, partnering a deliciously wicked Natascha Mair. Donald Hutera's review in The Times. Quote English National Ballet may not be calling its present offering an in-house gala but that essentially is what it is. Lasting about 90 interval-free minutes, and danced in costume to mainly live music but without sets, this programme of nine short works ranges from excerpts from classical warhorses to contemporary pieces by both highly established and emerging choreographers. Not everything on opening night was all that it could be, but the mixed bill is more hit than miss. Link to comment
