dirac
A review of Sarasota Ballet by Marina Harss in The Sarasota Herald-Tribune. Quote He created “Birthday Offering” for the seven leading Royal Ballet ballerinas of the time, whose names are associated with each of the solos. Victoria Hulland, one of Sarasota Ballet’s veteran principal dancers, performs the role originated by Margot Fonteyn, full of intricate steps and light, floating jumps, followed by smaller, beaten jumps. She dances with ease and authority. In the more stretched, legato solo originated by Svetlana Beriosova, Marijana Dominis, promoted to soloist last year, shows a lovely, singing line. And Ricardo Graziano partners Hulland with expert timing in the final pas de deux, in which Ashton included the charming image of the cavalier spinning his partner like a top, with the lightest of touches. This virtual performance makes me wish the ballet were returning next season. Link to comment
