Mulryan Centre for Dance

English National Ballet entered a new chapter in 2019 when we moved into a purpose-built state-of-the-art home in a new east London neighbourhood, London City Island.

Our award-winning building will be named Mulryan Centre for Dance, after the family of one of its major supporters, Sean Mulryan, Chairman and Group Chief Executive of major developer Ballymore.

We want to thank Sean Mulryan and his family for this incredible generosity.

Maria Kochetkova joins as Lead Principal

International ballet star Maria Kochetkova returns to the Company, joining as a Lead Principal.

Kochetkova has danced with companies including English National Ballet (2003 - 2007), The Royal Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, Finnish National Opera and Ballet, the Mariinsky and Mikhailovsky Theatres, and American Ballet Theatre. She also performed as a Guest Artist with us in Cinderella in-the round in 2019.

Oh dear. That's distressing to read. I suppose there may be personnel issues affecting the new production (including backstage staff) that don't affect Nutcracker but who knows? I certainly hope ticket sales aren't the deciding factor. It's such a great score and, as noted above, I have been very curious how that production turn out as well as how it is received.

In the U.S. it sometimes feels as if any ballet title that isn't ultra-familiar has no chance...

Raymonda performances now reduced to seven.

The poster for the ballet is of a Florence Nightingale figure holding a lamp aloft with a leaping male dancer in the background.  Badly chosen.  Casual ballet goers would respond to a ballerina in a tutu, something to take the kids to.  Not the way to sell an unfamiliar work.

I am willing to take Tamara Rojo at her word when she says the reason for the delay is lost rehearsal time because of Covid infections within the company. New York City Ballet has delayed the start of its winter season for the same reason.

Calling off performances on 18-20 January, refunding tickets or reassigning them to other dates, only to reinstate those dates and cancel performances on 13-16 January instead looks nothing like a deliberate strategy to consolidate tickets. Being box office coordinator must be an awful job these days.

Anyone know why Maria Kochetkova hasn't been cast in this run? She was featured in one of the promos, and she posted on IG about it at one point...

Just announced: Kochetkova is leaving ENB at the end of this month. No mention of SFB. She did at least one Nutcracker with ENB.

Today we announce that Maria Kochetkova, Lead Principal Dancer, will be leaving ENB later this month. Maria will be leaving the UK to pursue her wider creative ambitions in dance. We wish Maria every success in the future.

The pandemic has messed with so many careers -- it's just one of the multitude of crappy elements.

On Kochetkova's IG Stories, a shot yesterday at Heathrow with suitcases and today in Copenhagen.  She's 35 years old and not really a super-star in a league with Osipova. I wonder if she'd head back to San Francisco for a few more years. ABT has no shortage of principal women.
