Dancers get real on TikTok.

Quote

As more and more stuck-at-home dancers join TikTok, it has also become a place to dissect some of the problems and clichés that dog ballet. Users make darkly funny memes about body dysmorphia, eating disorders, abusive teachers, misogyny and homophobia. They are the same issues that dance films and TV shows mine for drama and melodrama. But the wounded whimsy of ballet TikTok reflects what it actually feels like to be a ballet dancer — the frustrations and joys of a demanding, problematic, beautiful art.

Atlanta Ballet presents a digital program, "Silver Linings."

Quote

Darian Kane is an Atlanta Ballet dancer and choreographer. Her work in “Silver Linings” is Dr. Rainbow’s Infinity Mirror.

“Dr. Rainbow is this gender-neutral, right-brain creativity fiend,” Kane said. “And this character lives inside this world and basically wakes up a new life and creates this world as he or she goes and splits him or herself into multiple characters and iterations, which are the different facets of this creative character. And then, at the end of the day, the world kind of implodes, and everything restarts every single day.”
