An obituary for Susan Hendl.

Quote

She enrolled at the School of American Ballet in 1959, taking her academic classes each day at the Children’s Professional School. “She was kind of a handful, very emotional about everything, but everyone was very fond of her,” Ms. Horgan said. “She was very gifted, with a really lovely soft, gentle style, and I felt Mr. Balanchine thought she had a lot of potential.”

Miami City Ballet plans to present "The Nutcracker" alfresco.

Quote

This December, the MCB takes it to the next level with George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker in the Park—a completely outdoor experience at Downtown Doral Park. Thirteen performances are scheduled to take place live before a socially-distanced audience of just over 150 people, who will be seated in pods. Video sequences projected onto giant screens will animate the productions, bringing new life to the time-honored holiday classic and giving Isabel and Ruben Toledo’s innovative costumes and vibrant sets a new stage on which to shine. MCB Artistic Director Lourdes Lopez adapted the story for the outdoor space, and if the company’s recent stint on Lincoln Road is any indication, we can all expect the dancers to give it their all in full regalia no matter the setting.
