I don't know if this was originally broadcast live...

Young Maria Khoreva is teaching ballet class - presumably to capitalize on the current need and interest in remote classes. Her English is remarkably good. I'm curious: has she spent any time outside of Russia? Or are her English language skills entirely the result of school classes?

Her mother was an English teacher but then stayed home to raise children. Her  instagram is in fluent English. I have wondered if her English fluency is partly responsible for her freuquent pairing with Parish.

This exchange reminded me of how startling it is to hear the children of Princess Grace of Monaco speak - not only fluent English, but perfect American accents! I understand that young children easily pick up other languages and this seems to be an example.

Something interesting is that 'Russian' ballet dancers, to me, don't generally look particularly 'Russian.' If I have a stereotype image of how 'Russians' should look, they don't fit it. They have a more 'international Western' look. But then, the folks I see on the urban streets also don't look necessarily 'Russian' to me either. When I'm in the Mariinsky theatres the audience doesn't seem or feel that different than at Lincoln Center.

Or maybe we in the West are more 'Russian' looking than I think that we should be.  😊

Added:

So maybe I should quit while I’m ahead(?) ?

Here, for me, Sergei Filin looks ‘Russian' (facial expression) — Less usual.

Svetlana Zakharova (facial expression)  doesn’t.

By the way -- Svetlana Zakharova, here -- Wow !
