dirac
A review of the Australian Ballet by Emma Sullivan for The Sydney Morning Herald. Quote Set to Joby Talbot’s orchestrated rendition of songs by the White Stripes, “Chroma” oozed sex appeal. McGregor’s use of slow, held back movements against the tunes of fast-paced rock music was hypnotising. The stark white back drop left everything to the imagination and combined with Moritz Junge’s muted pillowcase-like costumes to put a focus on movement without segregation of gender. Link to comment
dirac
A photo gallery of sets from Australian Ballet productions. Quote The Display, photographed by Jeff Busby When The Australian Ballet staged The Display in 1964, its first production with an all-Australian cast, leading local artist Sidney Nolan created the sets and costumes (his lyrebird is pictured above). Famous for his stylised painting of notorious bushranger Ned Kelly, Nolan found working with the ballet a moving experience – when he saw his work professionally lit for the first time he said he was entranced by “the deep, rich, mysterious gloom of sunlight-shafted Australian rainforest”. He went on to create a series of paintings inspired by the experience, which hung in the theatre foyers when The Display toured. Link to comment
