Catazaro Declines NYCB Reinstatement; Ramasar to Rejoin

Maxwell is choosing to allow comments.  If she really felt stressed out by the harassment, she has the option to stop it.

You might as well tell someone besieged with obscene and abusive phone calls that, hey, you can always change your number. Maxwell may choose to disallow comments, but that doesn't make the behavior that forces her to that choice acceptable.

It's much easier than changing your number.  And I never said it was acceptable.

Doesn't matter, IMO, it's not an exact analogy. I'm glad to hear you say that the harassment is unacceptable.

I don't think you quite understood what I meant because I probably wasn't clear- she's responding to comments because she wants to defend herself, which indicates to me that she's willing to have this conversation.  It's not the same thing as the Copeland situation where minors were called out and didn't have the ability to control what was on Misty's IG.  I'm not saying it's a comfortable situation, but I admire her for her bravery in opening herself up to criticism.  It was more of an observation that she was choosing to keep comments open; not a judgement.

Edit: I also admire Waterbury (for some of what she has said/done).  I'm on no one's side.  I think the whole fight between them is unfortunate and distracts from the bigger issue.

Copeland did not call out minors.  She made a very mild criticism about the continued use of blackface.   Waterbury is posting videos of herself screaming obscenities at Maxwell,  a very different situation.  Of course her followers feel emboldened to join in with calls to "burn the witch!". Waterbury will never ask them to tone it down.

This whole back and forth between the Alexandra and Alexa reminds me of how many lawyers say they dont want women on the juries of rape trials bc of a tendency of women to tear each other down rather than look at the actual criminal. But I agree that Alexa has remained very kind and civilized to the name callers on her IG.

Call it whatever you want, she posted their IG names in her post.  I have comments about this on the dedicated thread, so I won't go down this tangent.

How many lawyers have said that?

I know many lawyers and I've read some academic journals on how women tend to be tougher on the rape victim than men. Don't know if this is still true but it was in the past.

Anyway I am getting the feeling that Alexandra is directing her rage at Alexa Maxwell because this sort of mass social media harassment is unfortunately more commonly directed towards females.

Canbelto, I also teach high school students, as well as middle school students and am a learning specialist who has taught many "Teens & Tweens" parenting series and teacher education series over more than 30 years. The final stage of childhood is 18-25. That is to say that the myelin on the neurons of the frontal lobes lays down somewhere within that age range, rendering a person a mature adult. All that middle and high school social media drama is intense, but it should be fading by the time individuals are Waterbury and Maxwell's ages. I don't see that Maxwell is behaving like a teen at all. I think she felt forced to defend her choices publicly and that she probably is sick of it all. On the contrary, I believe that Waterbury may be a late bloomer who may not yet possess the mature judgment of a frontal lobe myelinated individual. I am not commenting on the merits or otherwise of her case, but simply saying that her behavior is still stuck at an immature level.

IDK, I feel like in the age of social media these sorts of "takedowns" have become more common among way older people. I agree that Maxwell is behaving more maturely. Her responses on IG to a lot of abusive comments have been very measured. Waterbury seems to have a different personality, and thus responds differently.

I'm just saying that this sort of social media doxxing/takedown/dissing is unfortunately very common among high schoolers, and I've seen it more often with adults too. Just as an example, a royal fashion blog I followed recently had to severely limit comments after the blog owner got a heap of abusive comments from fans of both Meghan and Kate. The people involved were mostly middle-aged women. But the comments became so vitriolic that the blog owner had to take a break.

I just continue to be very shocked that nobody has asked Waterbury to stop this behavior or at least tone it down. I believe that in addition to being a dancer she is also a model - doesn’t she have a manager? At the very least she should be running all of her comments on her case by her lawyer. I’m very sympathetic to her but this behavior is very unfortunate.

I think a lot of people her age view a social media win as bigger than a win in court. Waterbury is going to Columbia, and she appears to be an attractive young lady who has a promising modeling career ahead of her. Monetary damages from a lawsuit might not seem as big as a social media doxxing. If Ramasar can be let go from West Side Story or his contract not renewed with NYCB (the latter I think is more likely than the former) that might seem like the shiny bronze ring to her.

I’m reading this and it seems like you’re diagnosing this woman without ever having met her (I assume) and it makes me very uncomfortable. Is this professionally appropriate, I wonder?

As a fellow educator I would never presume to publicly hypothesize on the frontal lobes (or, citing my professional status, to otherwise diagnose specific somatic or psychological causes for behavior) of students I know well, much less those of people I’ve never met.

I have no medical education of any kind. It’s my understanding that the frontal lobe is not fully developed until around age 25, correct? Waterbury is only 22 I think so it makes sense that she has a lower maturity level. Maxwell and Hod are both 25 or older I believe.

Medical journals say the frontal lobe develops into the 20s. So it makes sense that Maxwell presents as more mature on social media. Traumatic events can also inhibit frontal lobe development.

I’ve read a fair amount of research on brain development and the thing that strikes me is that not all people reach the highest level of development... period. It speaks to all of us.

I have sympathy for all the people in this conflict, Waterbury, Maxwell and Ramasar. Not much sympathy for Chase Finlay, though I sincerely hope he’s addressing his substance issues.
What I cannot condone is a victim attacking someone else. My saying that doesn’t excuse the original incident. If an abused child grows up and then abuses their own child I would say the same thing: Stop it!  And that’s what I want to say to Alexandra Waterbury now, stop talking to and about Alexa Maxwell. Stop it now.

You are all, naturally, welcome to your own individual views on the matter.

Does that even mean anything?  The 25K?  I'm not sure how these online petitions work.

Personally, I think it means that social media makes it easy to sign petitions for whatever cause one wants, and feel like a crusader for doing it. In any event no one gets fired from a union gig because of a petition.
