A story on the feature film "Girl," which is about a transgender ballet student, by Laura Cappelle in The Financial Times.

Quote

Lara’s body, in all its complexity, is at the heart of Girl, and Dhont’s tender yet unflinching portrayal of it has sparked highly contrasting reactions. Last May, amid critical praise for the film’s grace and emotional punch, it took home both the Camera d’Or for best first feature and the Queer Palm at the Cannes Film Festival. Since then, however, a number of transgender activists and organisations have targeted what they see as Girl’s potentially damaging depiction of self-harm and the film’s “fixation” on Lara’s physical features.
