The performance was a blend of ballet and opera, the ballet featuring dancers from the Sarasota Ballet, along with guest artists Marcelo Gomes, Maria Kowroski (principal New York City Ballet) and Skylar Brandt (soloist, American Ballet Theatre), while the opera featured world-renowned mezzo-soprano Susan Graham, accompanied on piano by Bradley Moore.

As guests took their seats in the beautifully decorated tent, they were welcomed by Ballet Executive Director Joseph Volpe, followed by Director Iain Webb.

A review of English National Ballet by Louise Levene in The Financial Times.

Plot in place, Swan Lake’s magic rests largely with its stars. At last Friday’s performance, Romanian ballerina Alina Cojocaru returned to a role she has danced for nearly 20 years, dancing with finely shaded musicality and inhabiting the unhappy swan and her dazzling doppelgänger with utter conviction. Cojocaru has said she prepares for the role by imagining Odette’s life in the scenes we are not shown and her tremulous petits battements tell us everything we need to know about life with Rothbart. She turns Odile’s bravura tricks with real zest, an explosion of high spirits that makes her duplicity all the more shattering for the deluded Siegfried.
