I suppose this is like a "black and white" leotard version of traditional Indian Bharatanatyam dancing. The interesting thing is that in the present day - in Western culture - this dancing is quite easy to relate to now.

One of the things that I find in both of these reviews is the tension that many Western writers have when they discuss work in a tradition that they know has a complex and highly developed technique, but they do not hold themselves to be experts in.  Both examples here do a great job with that challenge, but I know if I read a commentary by an Indian critic, they would see so many things that are invisible to my eye.
