I received this e-mail message from the Chicago Dancing Festival:

Dear Chicago,

Ten years ago we were inspired to create The Chicago Dancing Festival and now, thanks to your help, our ten year project is complete. When we began, we were determined to make the festival a work of art in itself that would be free to the public in keeping with a belief that art belongs to everyone. Our very first Festival at the Pritzker Pavillion on August 19th, 2006, was enjoyed by over 10,000 dance enthusiasts who cheered for an extraordinary collection of the best dance in the United States. Over the following ten years during the Chicago Dancing Festival, nearly 200,000 seats were filled watching more than 500 dancers representing 75 great dance companies from around the world, demonstrating the depth and breadth of the art of dance. The Festival raised the profile of Dance in Chicago taking its rightful place with Music, Fine Arts and Architecture.

We are grateful to have had the opportunity to share our love of dance with so many of you and to have seen our vision of Chicago as a dancing city embraced on such a grand scale. On that note, and with a sense of satisfaction that we accomplished what we set out to do, the Tenth Anniversary CDF Celebration of Dance was also the grand finale of the Chicago Dancing Festival itself. Our work of Art has been completed. We hope you will continue to engage with the art of dance by attending performances by the exceptional dance companies that perform year round at theaters all over Chicago to whom we confidently pass the torch.

The Chicago Dancing Festival was produced annually by our non-for-profit foundation, The Chicago Dancing Company, and was underwritten almost entirely by individual benefactors and family foundations who are vested in the belief that the Arts are integral to the quality of life in a city such as ours and an exemplar of high-minded ideals. We would like to offer our utmost thanks to you, the extraordinarily generous people, without whom, the Festival could not have existed.  Though we have completed our ten year project, in the future The Chicago Dancing Company will be exploring new ways to expand the presence of dance in Chicago and support the many gifted dancers in the world.

With gratitude and best wishes,

Lar Lubovitch, Jay Franke and David Herro
Founders
