angelica
I saw my first Giselle with Struchkova and (?) perhaps Zhdanov, in 1959. I think that most Americans were not well acquainted with Giselle at the time because an audible gasp went through the audience when the wilis chugged across the stage, it was so exquisite. rg
perhaps Albrecht on that tour was danced by Nikolai Fadeyechv. i'm not sure Zhdanov did Albrecht during these tours. certainly Fadeyechev was Albrecht to Ulanova's Giselle around this time as recorded in Czinner's film made in London in '56. Stuchkova was still dancing Giselle in the 70s when the Bolshoi Ballet played NYC. Link to comment
Swanilda8
Fadeyechev and Zhdanov both performed Albrecht on the 1959 tour. I don't yet have cast lists for all the performances, but from the ones I have, the performance that Struchkova did was with Fadeyechev. angelica, might I ask what city you saw them in? angelica
It was in New York, Swanilda8, at the old Met. I will never forget it. I grew up going to NYCB in the balcony at City Center, but for this performance my mother bought us seats in what is now called side parterre, and it was exciting to be so close to the stage, even though it was at the side. And it was a school night! Link to comment
