volcanohunter
Sadly, this is not relevant for most North Americans, but the December 16 cinema broadcast of the Paris Opera Ballet's Sleeping Beauty is scheduled to star Eleonora Abbagnato and Mathieu Ganio. In addition to a number of French and German cinemas, the ballet will be shown in a smattering of Austrian, Belgian and Italian cinemas, and at six movie theaters in Quebec. http://www.fraprod.fr/offre_cinema.php?id=91 http://www.operadeparis.fr/saison_2013_2014/Ballets/la-belle-au-bois-dormant/decouvrir/distribution-la-belle-au-bois-dormant/ Link to comment
Dale
Are the POB live in Cinema broadcasts not showing the United States? Link to comment
volcanohunter
No, I'm afraid they haven't been seen in the U.S. for several years. Unless you live close enough to the border to cross into Quebec, you're out of luck. Link to comment
volcanohunter
In addition to Eleonora Abbagnato and Mathieu Ganio as Aurora and Désiré, the broadcast is scheduled to feature Myriam Ould-Braham and Mathias Heymann as Florine and the Bluebird, as well as premiers danseurs Valentine Colasante, Eve Grinsztajn, Stéphanie Romberg, Audric Bezard and Christophe Duquenne. If casting from opening night holds, that means Romberg will be Carabosse, Grinsztajn will be the sixth prologue fairy and Colasante and Bezard will perform in the Jewel pas de cinq. http://www.operadeparis.fr/blogopera/la-belle-au-bois-dormant-en-direct-au-cinema The ballet will be screened primarily in France, as well as in Germany and Italy, and a couple of theaters in Austria and Belgium. It will also be shown at seven cinemas in Quebec, but not until March 20 & 30. http://www.fraprod.fr/offre_cinema.php?id=91 Link to comment
pherank
It will also be shown at seven cinemas in Quebec, but not until March 20 & 30. At least it won't be quite as cold then. ;) Maybe some people will indeed venture north from the US... Link to comment
volcanohunter
Today, Saturday, December 14, at 22:40 Paris time--or 4:40 p.m. ET-- France 3 will be showing a digest version of The Sleeping Beauty, with a run time of one hour and 15 minutes. The footage will be from the 'backup' performance filmed last Wednesday. I have no idea whether the broadcast will be geo-blocked, but at the moment I am able to watch France 3 online by clicking on "Regardez France 3 en direct." http://www.france3.fr/ http://www.france3.fr/emission/la-belle-au-bois-dormant/diffusion-du-14-12-2013-22h45 Link to comment

volcanohunter
Having Heymann make his role debut during a live cinema broadcast must be stressful to say the least. Good luck to them! Link to comment
volcanohunter
The Sleeping Beauty with Myriam Ould-Braham and Matthias Heymann will be screened at a dozen cinemas in Australia on Friday, March 14. As noted earlier, it will be shown in Quebec on March 20 and 30. In addition, it will be screened in Japan--in Tokyo, Osaka and Hyogo--on April 18. volcanohunter
If you've got the means to circumvent the geo-block, the ballet is available on demand on French TV's Culturebox. I believe this is the first time the complete performance with Eleonora Abbagnato and Mathieu Ganio has been made available. Last year French television aired a heavily excerpted version of their performance, while the cinema broadcast starred Myriam Ould-Braham and Mathias Heymann owing to Abbagnato's indisposition. Here Ould-Braham and Heymann are Florine and the Bluebird. http://culturebox.francetvinfo.fr/festivals/lopera-de-paris/la-belle-au-bois-dormant-de-noureev-a-lopera-bastille-207377 Link to comment
