Alexandra
Thanks for that, Tigerlily -- and welcome! Many posters here may not be familiar with Eks' "Romeo and Juliet" (including me!) Could you tell us a little bit about it? What's different about it, what makes it so fantastic? Link to comment
Tigerlily
This is a new and very different Romeo and Julia. Set in a city in crisis, all gray and black. The sets are minimal, movable walls, in fact the dancers move the walls, it is very effective. The costumes are renaissance in style with a modern twist. The ballet is in two acts very of this time. But it was the quality and power of the dancing that made the evening so unforgettable. I cannot remember a more enjoyable evening at the ballet, it was so good to see so many happy faces leaving a theatre. This was a World premiere of Mats Ek Work. Link to comment
Pamela Moberg
Yes, Alexandra, it is a very different Romeo and Juliet - in fact it is a Juliet and Romeo! I have a recent article about it here somewhere. Promise to dig it out so I can expand. If mem. serves it was something about the empowering of women and that Juliet is not a victim, but rather Romeo is. Will not babble any more now, must find that review! Link to comment
Helene
Does that mean it's not all Mom Capulet's fault? Link to comment
