Sergei Polunin

Thats the tattoo on his stomach and has been there for a while

On another topic, here he is performing in the Adriano Celetano tribute.

I thought his dancing looked even more haggard than the last time I saw him.  And for all his protestations that he wants to innovate ballet, I find that he looks the same in every new video I see.  Its as if he decided that what worked in the Take Me To Church video will do just fine everywhere else.

I googled David LaChapelle because he was behind what has been Polunin's biggest success and I be interested to know what he thought of all this. Wikipedia said he was gay! One wonders how he feels about Polunin's posts.

Not only that, but Hozier himself turned the song into an anti-homophobia anthem with his own video. Did Polunin just not realize any of this at the time, or has he changed? I agree he seems to need help. Sad case.

London Theatre Direct halt ticket sales for Sergei Polunin at the London Palladium in light of homophobic comments posted on Instagram

That's rather a bizarre headline, considering that the cited comments were posted in December. I thought light traveled faster than that.

A number of UK theatres sell tickets through agencies rather than selling them directly to the public.  How serious this is depends on whether or not London Theatre Direct was the sole agent for Palladium tickets or whether tickets can still be obtained elsewhere.

Tickets still seem to be available — here, for instance.

I see this thread is way out of date.  To revert to 2019:

- ROMEO & JULIET in Verona was an amazing success with audience of over 10,000.  The show was created in only 6 months.  It was a phenomenal achievement as recognised by the Italian press.  An international tour was due to follow including to the US.  That was cancelled by Covid and then war, except for the London performance which eventually went ahead in December 2021 after multiple Covid postponements, to an audience of 5,000 despite Omicron Covid surge in London.  Yet again the UK press struggled to write reviews that might be seen to compliment Sergei. They praised everything else or half complimented him .. “he can dance but can’t act”, or “he can act but can’t dance”.  It was laughable how they twisted themselves in knots.  The truth is the audience were there primarily for Sergei.

- RASPUTIN continues to be in demand despite the reviews in UK press. It was booked and sold out in over 30 venues worldwide for 2020 (but Covid and war).   It has since been performed over 50 times, mostly in Russia. The most recent show was this month in Serbia.  People from all over Europe, also Australia and USA travelled to see it.

- the third full length ballet Sergei commissioned in 2019 was LITTLE RED AND THE WOLF.  It premiered in Moscow with an international cast including Johan Kobborg as the Wolf, Laura Fernandez as Little Red and Sergei as the Woodsman.  Laura is now a principal with Nina Ananiashvili’s Georgian State Ballet.  This ballet was also due to tour internationally in 2020.

- there were many other projects and performances in 2019.  He’s a hard working man.

Whatever you may think of Sergei himself, it’s impressive for any company to commission and produce 3 full length shows in one year.  He has to create everything from nothing, including raising the finance,  He is producer and director as well as the lead dancer collaborating with choreographers, composers and all the creative team.
