California
This really belongs under "funding issues in the arts." Recently, it was announced that Baryshnikov had donated a painting for auction, with proceeds to the BAC to support new programming. It was expected to bring $300,000-$500,000: http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/03/28/baryshnikov-arts-center-to-auction-off-favorite-painting-of-its-founder/ Today it is being reported that it sold for $746,500 to a private German collector. I'll take that as great news for next year's BAC budget for new programs. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110412/ap_en_ot/us_baryshnikov_arts_center Link to comment
bart
I like Baryshnikov's statement: It’s using old art to generate new art. Link to comment
