California
Baryshnikov toured extensively in fall 2009, but I can't find anything on the web about his performance plans in 2010. Has anybody discovered any information? Link to comment
Alexandra
Hi California! Welcome to the forum. I'm bumping this up hoping that someone iwll see it -- I have not heard or read anything yet. I hope someone else will have some news. Link to comment
California
Just posted at the BAC site: Baryshnikov will perform "Sarabande" from Robbins' A Suite of Dances at the Gala celebration of the new Robbins theater at the Baryshnikov Arts Center on February 16: http://www.bacnyc.org/index.php/events/per.../JRT021610-Gala No information about ticket price. I don't see him on the schedule for the other programs at BAC this spring. http://www.bacnyc.org/index.php/events/performances Last summer, his touring schedule with Laguna was available on the BAC site. I wonder if he is not planning any tours this spring or, perhaps, it's just not final yet. Link to comment
California
The print brochure for the spring season at BAC just arrived. Tickets for this gala are priced "from $1500" and include dinner with the artists. Here's the program: http://www.bacnyc.org/index.php/events/per.../JRT021610-Gala Otherwise, googling is turning up no other performances in 2010. If others discover something, please pass it along. California
"Baryshnikov by Seliger" is a new site with HD video and still photographs of Baryshnikov at the Baryshnikov Arts Center. It appears to be part of a promotion of Nikon cameras: http://nikonusa.com/d3s/ He's also featured in a new Louis Vitton photo shoot by Annie Leibovitz. Previews are available now, with the full release February 11: http://tmagazine.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/01...-louis-vuitton/ Link to comment
California
Kate Moss is making a short dance film with Baryshnikov in July. It's not clear where it will be shown (a fundraiser? for what? where?). Michael Clark will choreograph and direct. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/artic...test-stars.html Link to comment
California
Baryshnikov will appear at the Ringling International Arts Festival in Sarasota October 13-15: "As for the international festival, set for Oct. 13-17, the event features several United States and world premieres in theater, music and dance. California
Two new articles/reviews about Baryshnikov, on the occasion of his performances this week at BAC: http://cityarts.info/2010/05/19/baryshnikov-is-back/ [This one mentions performances later this year in Israel and Paris, but no hints about additional performances that we didn't already know about.] http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/21/arts/dance/21solos.html Link to comment
California
Reports on the Baryshnikov-Cunningham benefit performance in Los Angeles June 7: http://losangeles.broadwayworld.com/articl...r_100k_20100609 ". . . Occasion Piece2 incorporates Cunningham's choreography spanning decades and featuring Cunningham solos performed by Mikhail Baryshnikov for the first time. "It is always an honor to be performing in the work of the great Merce Cunningham--my dear friend who taught me so much about life and art," said Mr. Baryshnikov, who performed alongside the choreographer in Occasion Piece (1999). "I am thrilled to be a part of the historic Legacy Tour and to share the stage with all these brilliant dancers." On Monday, Baryshnikov performed alongside fifteen members of the MCDC, with music by John Cage from Song Books, costumes by Anna Fink and lighting by Christine Shallenberg." The review from the Los Angeles Times: http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/...0,6818091.story ". . . Baryshnikov danced but three short Cunningham solos in the 35-minute "Occasion Piece2," which was assembled for this evening. If he was the center of attention, that was not because he tried to steal the show. Nor was it that Misha tried to be Merce. But at 62, Baryshnikov is the perfect mature Merce dancer. He draws your gaze to the movement of every part of his body, infusing the waving his arms or lifting a chair with expression. The current Cunningham dancers — young and appearing as if genetically fashioned to bring Cunningham movement into being — of course enchant. But the combination of Baryshnikov's personality, experience and technique, placed at the service of Cunningham, best demonstrates how the work may continue. . . " Link to comment
California
Baryshnikov performed, with Ana Laguna, in Paris June 15-20: http://www.doitinparis.com/good-tips/danse...aryshnikov-4712 The program ("Three Solos and a Duet") looks to be the same one they toured in the U.S. in 2009. At 45 Euros, that was quite a bargain! Link to comment
