rg
the following scans of a news photo of Shearer and her husband has copy that gives the ballerina's profession as 'actress'- UK members familiar with the English political system migh be able to say more about this time in Shearer's career. the numbering at the bottom would seem to indicate a date of 1958. Shearer had stopped dancing by then. From 1954 to 1957 she worked fairly intensively as a stage actress - including a spell at the Bristol Old Vic. I would guess that once her husband decided to stand for parliament she concentrated his career and on her family - they had four children. Link to comment
SandyMcKean
Looking carefully at the photo, I find it interesting that they seem to be doing a "theatrical kiss".....where they miss each other's lips. Link to comment
dirac
Shearer had stopped dancing by then. From 1954 to 1957 she worked fairly intensively as a stage actress - including a spell at the Bristol Old Vic. I would guess that once her husband decided to stand for parliament she concentrated his career and on her family - they had four children. Shearer always planned to keep working after her marriage, but apparently it got harder as the children started arriving. She shifted to acting in the hope that it would be somewhat less demanding than dancing, but the theatre is also tough on family life, especially for a woman, and eventually she stopped entirely. Thanks for the pix, rg. Link to comment
