dirac Posted August 8, 2008 Share Posted August 8, 2008 Nicola Rescigno has died at age 92. This obit has a photo of Rescigno with Callas, in costume for Norma, it looks like. Rescigno also introduced American audiences to such important post-war European singers as Joan Sutherland, Jon Vickers, Montserrat Caballé, Placido Domingo and Magda Olivero. For Callas, Rescigno was a sympathetic collaborator who knew and loved her repertoire and understood her Italian heritage. He once described the timbre of her voice as "like [Pablo] Casals playing the cello". Link to comment
