PA Ballet in Dracula

The casting is up for PA Ballet's second program of the 2007-08 season.

Pennsylvania Ballet presents the dazzling ballet thriller Dracula,

October 26 – November 3, 2007 at The Academy of Music

Just in time for Halloween, Pennsylvania Ballet dances on the dark side with Ben Stevenson’s

Dracula, October 26 through November 3, 2007 at The Academy of Music. Featuring flying vampires

and dazzling pyrotechnics, Dracula is a broadway-esque production that audiences can really sink their

teeth into! Seething with “spookiness,” Dracula transports audiences to 19th century Transylvania

where Dracula’s castle casts a shadow on the helpless village below. The story focuses on the title

character, his spider-eating servant Renfield, a corps of zombie wives, and two beautiful victims, Flora

and Svetlana, who each succumb helplessly to his dark seduction. Created a decade ago to mark the 100th

anniversary of Bram Stoker’s classic thriller, Ben Stevenson originated his Dracula with Houston Ballet

and Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre. Pennsylvania Ballet last performed Dracula in its 40th Anniversary

season in 2003.

The powerful and chilling score for Dracula features Hungarian composer Franz Liszt’s music,

arranged specifically for the ballet by British composer John Lanchbery. This macabre tale is highlighted

by set designs by Thomas Boyd, and over 60 richly detailed costumes by Judanna Lynn, who is also

creating the brand new costumes for the world premiere production of George Balanchine’s The

Nutcracker, December 14 – 31, 2007 at The Academy of Music.
