Jhb_Boy
I'm keen to find out which ballets make use of music by Rachmaninov. Can anyone give me a list? Thanks so much. Link to comment
rg
a list is a big request and as likely a solid piece of research. i suppose some ballettalkers might chime in as the items in quetion strike them. as for a 'list' i suspect you'll need to get some good reference sources and have a long look. for starters there is messerer's concert number, once a popular bolshoi ballet 'highlight': SPRING WATERS. carbro
You can search the repertories on the lists of major ballet companies. ABT's for instance, gives the option of a composer search. For Rachmaninoff, it lists: Elegy Grass Rendezvous Spring Waters Three Preludes each ballet linked to further credits and notes. At NYCBallet.com, you can enter the composer's name in the site's search engine: Rachmaninoff. Etc., etc. Link to comment
Natalia
Boris Eifman's recent 'The Seagull' uses Rachmaninoff music. Many ballets exist to his 'Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini' (Sir Frederick Ashton, Stanton Welch, Leonid Lavrovsky, among numerous choreographers). Link to comment
Mel Johnson
Christian Holder set a pas de deux on Denise Jackson and Russell Sultzbach using some Rachmaninoff piano pieces for the Joffrey. But on the whole, he's resisted choreography, as his melodies are so highly dependent on rubato. Link to comment
