(New York -- May 10, 2007) In celebration of this year's theme "Shall We Dance. . . " Hermès spotlights the art of dance and The Gallery at Hermès will present IN THE COMPANY OF STARS, a photography exhibition of an entire season of the Ballet de l'Opéra National de Paris (Paris Opera Ballet). Captured through the lens of photographer Gérard Uféras, these profoundly personal images take us into the very heart of dance. Located on the fourth floor of Hermès at 691 Madison Avenue, IN THE COMPANY OF STARS will be open to the public from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Saturdays (Thursdays 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.)

Shadowing the dancers in the rehearsal rooms, backstage, and on a tour in Japan, Uféras focuses his lens on moments unseen by the public. Shooting from the wings, he documents the rapt concentration that precedes a dancer's entrance on stage. Uféras become an invisible second choreographer. He celebrates both slow and staccato rhythms, placing dancers in space, in accordance with the light and the geometry of their movements.

Born in Paris, France, Uféras began a regular photographic collaboration with the French daily, Libération, in 1984. In 1986, Uféras helped to set up the Vu Agency and has been a member of the Rapho Agency since 1993. He is a recipient of multiple awards. His photos are in many European collections and galleries. In addition to his photojournalism, he also works as a portraitist, as well as shoots advertising campaigns.

The most recent exhibition at The Gallery at Hermès featured Story, a video and sound installation by Chinese artist Gao Shiqiang. The Gallery has also featured a bi-coastal multi-media presentation of over 500 images from the book Still Moving: The Film and Media Collections of The Museum of Modern Art, selected by Steven Higgins and Ronald Magliozzi, from The Museum of Modern Art's Department of Film. Hermès has also presented a variety of other exhibitions including Doug Aitken's Broken Screen, Lou Reed's debut photography exhibition, and the first New York exhibition of photographer Michael Ackerman.
