Grand Pas Paquita

Recommended Posts

Can anyone tell me which parts of the Paquits Music were composed by Deldevez and which by Minkus. (as far as I know there are even bits by Adam) :yahoo:

I also need to know which variations were in the original Ballet, and which are only in the Grand Pas.

Thank You

this is a rather large question with a quite complicated and not necessarily definitive answer.

i am not adept at going back to previous ballettalk discussions but the individual numbers from the GRAND PAS CLASSIQUE from the last act of PAQUITA are still under discussion here depending upon which version one asks about. there's a particular variation danced in Makarova's production (and on video, performed by S. Jaffe ) for which i believe there is no definitve answer.

The tradition of bringing variations from various ballets into this 'grand pas' is one very likely started by M.F.Kshessinska for a special performance in which she took the leading ballerina role. (Alastair Macaulay wrote a letter to THE DANCING TIMES about this a while back.)

the best thing, perhaps, is to see if someone can locate all previous discussions of these individual numbers.

certainly in the GRAND PAS stagings somewhat current nowadays the composers involved are more numerous than just Minkus & Delvedez. (Tcherpnin is another, for example, in the variation from PAVILLON D'ARMIDE that is often found in PAQUITA's GRAND PAS.)

i have a book from russia that lists maybe 14 various variations known to have been danced in this grand pas, and believe i spelled these out here in a listing sometime back.

hope this helps, somewhat.

this post helped me out alot when I had the same problem, I dont think that there is anything from Adolphe Adam in the PAQUITA divertissement
