rg
The two photos posted here are among some new arrivals for 2007. The larger photo of N. M. Dudinskaya and V. M. Chabukiani documents the second cast of Vainonen's 1948 'reworking' of RAYMONDA in which Jean de Brienne was called Koloman (first danced by K.Sergeyev) opposite the Raymonda (her character name remained unchanged) of Ulanova. The new and Soviet-adjusted libretto was co-authored by Vainonen and Iuri Slonimsky. Whatever form the adjustments took, the gallantry of the shining hero toward his beloved heroine is clearly still in place from etiquette of the imperial court. The other photo is a postcard from Riga, showing E. Lukom and B. Shavrov, in an unidentified ballet. For some reason Shavrov strikes me as having a bit of sly sparkle i often note in the performing and pictures of Igor Zelensky. (Written in pencil on the back of the card is the year 1923 and the following credits are rubber-stamped to note: 'Foto K.Krauklis, Riga, Aleksandra eela[?] 105' Link to comment
Helene
What a wonderful photo of Dudinskaya; her profile is to die for! And Shavrov is quite the fox Link to comment
