Helene
We received an email this morning with the following question: Are there photographs of dancers in the public domain for which it would not infringe upon the rights of the photographer and subject if they were used as the model for paintings? rg
photographer/ballettalk members such as marc h. et alia should be better equipped to answer this question, but to the best of my limited knowledge, there is 70 year copyright on photos. the exception(s) might be those of russian and/or soviet dances for the better part of the 20th century, b/c i gather the soviets did subscribe to international copyright conventions and thus do not have the pictures from this period under copyright. but all of this is said w/ nothing better than amateur understanding.
