carbro
Sorry I can't answer your question, annekarina. My web search didn't turn up anything current. But I'm happy to welcome you to BalletTalk and invite you to tell us a bit about yourself on our Welcome Page. Link to comment
zerbinetta
I don't think he'd be so young at this point so it's possible he's retired from dance, teaching, coaching? Link to comment
Brioche
His brother is/was at ABT - see link: Zolymosi's Brother at ABT Link to comment
Alter Ego
As I somewhere read he teaches now in the State Ballet School in Budapest. His younger brother Tamas is some kind of his boss as he is Co-leading the school I hope I helped. Link to comment
Helene
Here's a link to what is translated as "The Hungarian Dance Academy," http://www.mtf.hu/?m=47&lang=en in which Tamas Solymosi is listed as "vice rector" and Zoltan Solymosi is listed as faculty. I suspect the site it up-to-date, since the link to the summer program is for this coming August. Here's a blast from the past: a link to Anna Kisselgoff's 1991 review of Bussell (age 22) and Solymosi (age 23) entitled, "2 Rising Young Stars of the Royal Ballet." Link to comment
zerbinetta
So he's only 38? Well, he wasn't a great technician but he certainly was incredibly gorgeous! Oh my! Link to comment
skinny_mini
I agree! Zoltan was mermerizing. Link to comment
Natalia
So he's only 38? Well, he wasn't a great technician but he certainly was incredibly gorgeous! Oh my! ...and he could 'heave-ho' the taller & heavier ladies. Link to comment
Mashinka
The Royal Ballet's current heaver of taller, heavier ladies is the Royal Danish Ballet's Kenneth Greve and I'm happy to report he is far superior to Solymosi in every respect. Link to comment

zerbinetta
Well, I dunno.... Depends what you like. My tastes are eclectic. To me the most beautiful man in the world is Dikembe Mutombo. Not merely his appearance but his comportment is noble and gracious. He looks not at all like Zoltan S. Link to comment
annekarina
Tanks for the information. I already noticed, but thanks anyway. There is also an article about him on the www on a site called 'PREMIER'. It's in Hungarian, of course, but the translation programm on the computer makes no sense at all. Is there anyone here on this forum who speaks Hungarian or with an Hungarian background who can tell me what this article is roughly about? Thanks in advance. Anne Karina Link to comment

bbea0202
Hello, I am bbea, a new member from Hungary. Just registered to help you all with the article in Premier about our Zoltán Solymosi. Sorry, I can't give you the full translation now, I am very busy at the moment and it is also quiet long and not very easy to translate in a way, you fully catch the main sence in English. Hungarian is a unique language with a unique (little bit silly) mentality, same as Zoltán had and surely will have forever. So, the article says that he was able to forget the past (it can be extremly difficult to face the age, and retire like he did for somebody who became once a world-class) and is focusing now only on his new profession, on his students. He never wanted to live abroad for good, because he likes his family and home country very much (can understand, me too). He is talking about how he became a dancer, his career, favourite caracters especially in Seregi's (Hungarian choreographer with hart and soul) ballets, finally his feelings and "fights" (I better don't write comments here, it would take a lifetime). He never visits the Royal Ballett while he use to drive through London with his wife from Yorkshire on the way to see her family, even they called him back with new contract. He is teaching, as you know, in Budapest. Actually, he finished to dance on the stage after an accident (he broke his arm)... I am sure he is also ambicious enough to have higher positions in the school, but wants to stay himself, just natural and live after his own rules, therefore stays in the background and is maybe still suffering sometimes deep inside. He is looking for peace in a picturesque little village not far from the lake Balaton, where I also offen pass by with my sister since our childhood and nowadays with our family and sons for vacation. They have there a very nice traditional house, eat good Hungarian food, drink good Hungarian wine, so there is nothing to be Hope I helped... Link to comment
Helene
Many thanks bbea0202 for telling us about the highlights of the article on Solymosi, and welcome to Ballet Talk. We have been very lucky in North America and Western Europe that dancers from Eastern Europe and Russia have performed with our companies, and that we have been privileged to see their performances. But it is perfectly understandable when people return home. It's very good to hear that Mr. Solymosi will influence the next generation of Hungarian dancers through his teaching. Link to comment
