Dale
According to the new Pointe Magazine, there will be a new American Ballet Theatre souvenir photo book, with photographs by Fabrizio Ferri. (There's a spread in the April/May issue of Pointe) Great news as I love souvenir photo books Link to comment
beck_hen
Some of those photos, by Fabrizio Ferri, appear in a brochure sent to subscribers. I'm eager to get this book—it looks like they are a little more romantic and glamorous than some of the very direct, documentary-style photos we've been seeing. I'm a fan of Rosalie O'Connor but I find Nancy Ellison a bit dry. The cover photo of the book: Gillian Murphy and Ethan Stiefel in Swan Lake costumes, actually submerged in a lake up to the waist, kissing. Very flattering to both of them and a convincingly passionate embrace. I have the souvenir photo book from ten years ago that has Bocca and Ferri on the cover. I've been looking through it again recently. One tidbit I noticed for the first time: Charles Askegard was married to Sandra Brown. I don't know if they're still together, and neither is still at ABT. It's good to have this updated to the next generation. There is not much overlap between company members then and now. Senior corps member Jennifer Alexander was in there, as was corps dancer Maxim Beloserkovsky! Link to comment

carbro
Fabrizio Ferri, brother of the ballerina, is the photographer, and several of his pics grace the brochure (which was sent to ABT's whole NYC-area mailing list). The cover is Jose Carreno as Ali, ensnared in a rope almost as thick as his arms, which accentuates his musculature. The photo of Murphy and Stiefel is extraordinary. Her arms spread upward, suggesting either the Swan's wings or a woman's emotional swelling. Other Ferri shots include Kent as Cinderella with Gomes atop a pumpkin and Bocca in shredded shirt from Manon. One of last year's more effective publicity posters -- Alessandra Ferri as Giselle (Act II) with skirt swirling all about her, is also by Fabrizio. A photo of the book is on the next-to-last page (with the seating diagram), with a little note that it is $25 + 2.00 p/h. You can order it on the ticket order form. Oddly, I can find nothing about it at ABT.org. Link to comment
Giselle05
I have the souvenir photo book from ten years ago that has Bocca and Ferri on the cover. I think you are talking about the one with Ferri and Guillaume Graffin? Or is it Robert Hill? lol, the one where you can just see the top of her, her hair is down and she is leaning against him against a black background? I don't think there has ever been one with Ferri and Bocca on the cover...but if I am wrong, please tell me! Fabrizio Ferri, brother of the ballerina, is the photographer, and several of his pics grace the brochure ( Fabrizio Ferri is actually Alessandra's husband The cover image with Murphy and Stiefel is beautiful. That, Carreno as Ali and Bocca in his shredded shirt are my three favorites :-) Link to comment
beck_hen
Hi all. Looks like I had a faulty memory on two counts: it was Graffin and not Bocca with Ferri on that old cover (he's just so in shadow you can barely see his face, so my mind jumped to the more famous partnership), and Askegard was married to Ashley Tuttle and not Sandra Brown! Thanks Giselle05 and carbro. Link to comment
